Hangul is a Toronto based indie folk/alt-rock band, led by Mir Kashif Iqbal, co-founder of the critically acclaimed band Parvaaz. Known for blending thought provoking poetry with contemporary rock, Kashif now brings that songwriting depth and innovation to a fresh indie-folk/jam rock sound with Hangul. Hangul derives its name from the Hangul Deer; an endangered indigenous species of Deer found in Kashmir. The band made its mark on the Toronto scene with a sold-out debut performance at Tapestry, Kensington Market (November 2024). Their Debut EP "Live at The Root Down" is out now on Bandcamp with a Debut LP slated for fall 2026. The band’s sound is influenced by classic, progressive and indie-folk rock. Drawing deeply from Kashif’s lived experience of growing up in Kashmir, Hangul’s music explores themes of longing, resilience, and hope, marrying poetic lyricism with expansive, immersive arrangements.
